About me

Updated in November’24

Professional

My name is Lera Kharatyan1. I am a Software Engineer at Google since February 2020. I work on AI tools for coding workflows for Google Software Engineers.

I studied Computer Science with ML-focus and now naturally specialise in backend development for ML products. I love leading projects from the brainstorming phase to the launch. Witnessing the full cycle brings me lots of joy!

Recently, I’ve been focusing on:

  • mastering my system design skills
  • advancing my distributed systems skills.

You can find my CV here.

Personal

I live in Munich, Germany with my husband. We moved to Germany from Moscow, Russia in 2020-21 to work at Google and escape the criminal regime. I speak Russian (native), English (C1) and German (B2).

Recently, I’ve been

  • learning German. My goal is the C1 exam.
  • practicing piano. No goal, but I really enjoy it!
  • planing a road trip to the US.
  • running. Goal is 10K for now.

I love video games, interior design, travelling (my Australian trip blog and Kenyan trip blog), wine, black-gaze music and helping people. I also love my job and I often prefer working over anything else, for better or for worse. One day, I want to go to a Master’s program in brain neuroscience or philosophy (I took philosophy as a minor during my bachelor’s and I want more!).

  1. Note: you might also know me under the name Valeriya Bubnova. Valeriya is my official name, but I prefer a shorter version: Lera. Bubnova is my maiden name. My current name is Armenian and comes from my husband. ↩︎
